During your consultation, if our doctor feels that histology is required to investigate what we are dealing with in further depth, there will be a charge of £100; we will call you with the results as soon we receive them.
What Causes Cysts?
You cannot prevent cysts as they are caused due to a duct blockage; this can be due to trauma, infection or genetic.
Epidermoid (Cysts) or Pilar Cyst are firm lumps that form beneath the skin and fill with liquid or keratin (pus-like substance). Cysts are also typically flesh-coloured and have a strong point. Although you cannot prevent cysts, you can follow some easy tips to avoid infecting the cyst as it can lead to disfiguration.
You should avoid touching and scratching the cyst. If you feel the cyst, ensure your hands are clean and do not attempt to burst or pop the cyst. This is because it is doubtful you will completely eradicate the substance from the cyst and leave yourself exposed to infection.

Is it safe to burst a cyst?
We advise that you do not attempt to burst your cyst at home; it can be dangerous and leave you exposed to infection.
Can I treat my cyst at home?
For a cyst to be treated entirely, we advise that you visit a professional, but a warm compress to the cyst 3-4 times a day can help reduce the size of the cyst. But please do not attempt to pop your cyst at home.
Do you offer aftercare?
Within two weeks after your treatment, we will invite you back for a check-up, just to make sure you’re comfortable and are having no problems.
Is there any pain?
You may experience minimal pain and specific side effects, such as itchiness after removal, as well as some reddening of the surrounding skin. Treatment is carried out under local anaesthetic so that you will be awake throughout the process. After your treatment, you will be able to get on with the rest of your day.
Are there any side effects?
Any minor side effects, such as redness and itchiness, should calm down within 24-48 hours after your treatment. If you are concerned about side effects, don’t be – we will talk you through everything during your free consultation.
