Are cysts dangerous? What causes cysts?
Most cysts are benign and noncancerous. But if you are worried about your cyst, contact your doctor to access the cyst.
Cysts are lumps or sacs of skin filled with keratin, liquid, air, or another substance. They can occur anywhere on the body, and they are typically noncancerous. Cysts are mainly caused due to a blockage in a duct, which can be because of trauma, infection and even possibly inherited.
Most cysts are not preventable due to a blocked duct, but you can ensure it does not become further infected to avoid touching and scratching the cyst. You keep it clean and ensure your hands are clean if you will handle it, and avoid trying to pop or burst it yourself.
Is it safe to burst a cyst?
We advise that you do not attempt to burst your cyst at home; it can be dangerous and leave you exposed to infection.
Can I treat my cyst at home?
For a cyst to be treated entirely, we advise that you visit a professional, but a warm compress to the cyst 3-4 times a day can help reduce the size of the cyst. But please do not attempt to pop your cyst at home.
Do you offer aftercare?
Within two weeks after your treatment, we will invite you back for a check-up, just to make sure you’re comfortable and are having no problems.
Is there any pain?
You may experience minimal pain and specific side effects, such as itchiness after removal, as well as some reddening of the surrounding skin. Treatment is carried out under local anaesthetic so that you will be awake throughout the process. After your treatment, you will be able to get on with the rest of your day.
